Chocolates and Black Dog- Can It Get Better Than This?

What is a good time without Black Dog? Its delightful amber hue, fine fragrance and deliciously strong palate speaks of good times! It helps you relax and unwind. Now, are you thinking of enriching your Black Dog experience? Why not go for chocolates? Chocolates! Yes, those dark chunks of happiness can actually enhance and beautify your experience with your glass of Black Dog Scotch. Here are a few types chocolate dishes In Sensed recommends.

·        Dark and/or semi sweet chocolate truffles- Most of us will never deny that truffles are delicious! They not only elate us with their irresistible, chocolaty taste, but also spoil us for choice, when it comes to fillings. Ranging from crispy caramel to gooey nougat, lumpy, crunchy nuts, and what not? But wait! There is more good news! They can do wonders when you have them with scotch!

·         Dark chocolate fudges and brownies- They are every chocolate lover’s dream dessert. But fudges and brownies pair incredibly well with scotch whiskey. But do keep in mind, not to pair your scotch with fudges brownies that are too sweet.
·         Chocolate covered fruits and nuts- The biggest boon of chocolate covered fruits is that it provides you with the goodness of fruits, as well as the scrumptious and delightful taste of chocolate. In other words, they are as tasty as they are healthy. Try them with a glass of scotch. Melt some semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips in a pot, and dip strawberries, bananas or peanuts in it. The individual flavours of the fruit(s), the chocolate and the drink create a complex yet delicious sensation on your tongue, and open up a whole new realm of experience. Citrus fruits like oranges however, do not go all that well with scotch, and thus should be avoided in this case.

Pair them up, and let the good times start rolling!

Pair 'em Up With Your Black Dog! (Non-Veg)

The mantra behind food pairing, we believe, is to ensure that the food and drink are complimentary each other. Not just in terms of taste and odour, but also in terms of texture. Say for instance you are in the mood for drinking some scotch whiskey. We would surely recommend Black Dog Scotch. Every scotch lover is familiar with this brand, brewing magic for morethan a century now.

The best part is that you have four varieties to choose from! Sink into its creamy, woody aroma, and treat yourself to its strong and balanced taste. Now, the next step is to choose a dish to go with your glass of Black Dog. Here are some all time favourite dishes that will not only go excellently with it, but will be a treat for your palate as well.

·         Chicken Tandoori- It is undoubtedly India’s favourite dish, and has rightfully captured the hearts of many a food lover, worldwide. The dish dates back to the Mughal era, is still as popular, as it was then. Pieces of chicken are marinated in yogurt, and a combination of spices, and are then roasted in the traditional charcoal oven, tandoor.

·         Fish finger- This dish has been introduced by the British during their rule, and soon became a club and coffee house favourite. Fillets of Bhetki fish are marinated with vinegar or lime juice, and are then dipped in batter or breadcrumbs, and deep fried in oil.

·         Kakori Kabab- This scrumptious delicacy originated in Awadh or Lucknow. Minced mutton is marinated with spices, and mounted on skewers, and roasted in a tandoor.

Pair 'em Up With Your Black Dog! (Veg)

Okay, now weekend is here, and your friends have suddenly called you up, and invited themselves over for a few drinks from your bottle of Black Dog Scotch Whiskey. You are more than happy, as now you know the secrets behind hosting an ideal scotch party. Also, you do have a few mouth-watering cocktails up your sleeve. But, you have no idea what dish to serve to go with them. What would you do? The solution is simple. Here are three of the best vegetarian dishes to pair with this fine brand of scotch.

  • ·         Paneer tikka- This gourmet dish goes extremely well with scotch. Pieces of paneer are marinated in a mixture of spices, and are grilled in a traditional tandoor, along with pieces of capsicum, tomatoes and onions, and are served with a dash of lemon juice. However, in this case, do try to go easy on the lemon juice, as fruits with high citrus content do not go well with scotch.

  • ·         Veg Pakoras- Pakora is without doubt, the nation’s favourite snack! Pieces of vegetables are dipped in a batter made of flour or gram flour (besan) and are deep fried in oil. You can choose any vegetable for your pairing session, but do note that potato, onion and cheese pakoras go really well with your glass of Black Dog Scotch.

  • ·         Crispy Chilli Baby Corn- Okay. Now this one is a dish borrowed from our fellow Asian nation- Thailand. This dish entered the Indian food scenario about a decade back, and took the country by storm! Pieces of baby corn are covered in corn flour, fried in oil, and are finally sautéed in a mixture of sauces, spices and vegetables. It would not be wrong to say, that this dish is loved and savoured by vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.

Black Dog is a fine blend of whisky, and opens up doors for your various senses for an exquisite experience. Now that you know what to pair with it, go ahead, and prepare your palates for a treat!

Preparation is quite simple in fact and comprises of a few hassle free steps. These are:

2.      The liqueur, vermouth, lemon juice, orange juice and Black Dog should be added into the blender as well.

Whip Up a Nice Glass of Rabbie Burns With Your Black Dog

When it comes to scotch whisky, Black Dog is truly the king. Foe more than a century now, the brand has perfected the art of brewing and aging whisky, to bring to us one of the finest drinks Scotland has to offer. Now, let me ask you a question. How would you like your glass of Black Dog? Would you like it on the rocks, or with soda or water? Or would you like to whip up a nice glass of Rabbie Burns? Oh no! I do not mean the famous Scottish poet. Actually, I do mean him, but in a different sense.  Rabbie Burns is a scotch based cocktail named after the ‘Plowman Poet’.  In a previous blog, we spoke of the great poet’s love for scotch, but today let me provide you with the recipe of the wonderful cocktail, honouring him. It is one of my personal favourites. Here is how you go about it-

Ingredients (For 2 servings)-

  • 3 oz. Black Dog Scotch
  • A dash of orange bitter
  • A dash of absinthe
  • 1.5 oz. sweet vermouth
  • A few pieces of  orange peel
  • A few chunks of ice

Method-

  •  Rub the orange peel along the rim of a cocktail glass.
  • Pour in the above ingredients (except the orange peel), and stir well.
  •  Garnish with orange peel (you can cut them out in ribbon-like shapes).

Why not liven up your cocktail party with a glass of tart and delicious Rabbie Burns! Everyone is sure to love it!

Shake it up with The Blimey- A Cocktail based on the Black Dog Scotch

Usually most of us have Scotch with a drop of water, but I like to have it as a cocktail. Of all the cocktails that I have had till date, this one is my favourite. It is called "The Blimey".

It has been named after the colloquial term of expressing alarm. The cocktail is ideal for drinking Scotch on warmer days and as we all know, Kolkata is a warm and humid city. If only the Blimey had a signature horse race to go along with it, it might just become as popular as the mint julep.

Ingredients
2 oz Black Dog Scotch Whiskey
1/2 oz lime juice
1/2 tsp superfine sugar

Method:
In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine all of the ingredients. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass.

I have used Black Dog Scotch because of its strong and unique taste and tantalizing aroma. It makes my scotch experience all the more worthwhile. Hope you enjoy my cocktail recipe and don't forget to let me know how you liked it!

Black Dog Scotch and Other Home Bar Essentials

In our last post we spoke of the advantages of having a bar at home, and the ways to go about it. Now let's talk about the must-haves of a personal bar. A well-stocked bar must contain a few essentials. Here is a rough list of what your home bar must have-

Spirits- The most important occupants of your bar cabinet are definitely the spirits. Wine of different types, vodka, and rum are must. When it comes to scotch, we would definitely suggest that you go for a fine blended one like Black Dog. The brand needs no introduction. For 130 years, Black Dog has presented the world with the exquisite taste of scotch. You can choose from the four varieties they have. Each sip of Black Dog is surely going to be a treat for your senses.

Mixers- You can stock up your bar with a variety of mixers. Club soda, and cold water are a must.  In addition, you can always keep a few bottles of soft drinks of various flavours, and canned fruit juices. In case you are a cocktail enthusiast, you can include liqueurs and bitters as well.

Glasses- Whether you are drinking a nice glass of wine or savouring an exquisite scotch whisky like Black Dog, you need the right glass. Stock up your bar with some nice and broad whiskey glasses, and beautiful martini glasses. And yeah! Don’t forget the sexy wine glasses and champagne flutes!

Accessories- None of us can deny their importance. From the long and sleek cocktail stirrer to the stout cocktail shaker- these little things will help you in a big way. Also, you cannot leave out the corkscrew, the bottle opener, the citrus juicer and the very useful ice box with tongs. But, of course, the most important of all is definitely the cocktail measure jigger. You just need to pour the right amount!

Now that your home bar is ready, what would you, and how would you like to have it today :)?

Enhance Your Black Dog Experience at Home

Who doesn't dream of having a nice little bar in one’s home? It would be really nice. Wouldn’t it? That way, you can always fix yourself a nice drink after a tiring day at work, or treat your friends when they come over. Okay, now having a bar of your dreams is not all that far fetched. You simply need to keep a few things in mind. Firstly, store your bar essentials in an attractive cabinet. You can try a classic wooden cabinet with a glass door. Carefully adjust the lighting in and around your cabinet. It can do wonders! Secondly, make sure you dust your liquor cabinet regularly. Dust can make even the nicest cabinets look ugly. You would definitely not want that. Lastly, and most importantly, you must keep your bar well-stocked.

If you are a fan of blended scotch like Black Dog, then having a home bar will definitely allow you to enjoy your glass in any way you please. Have it on the rocks, or mix it up with water or soda. If you are in the mood for a cocktail, then stir up a nice glass of Rob Roy or Smoky Martini. Black Dog, one of the premium scotch brands will not only treat your taste buds, but will also help you unwind and relax.

Black Dog- From Scotland, With Love

In our previous blog, we spoke of Scotland and her traditions, but today we are going to talk about the various things Scotland gifted the world with, and how they got assimilated into the Indian cultural sphere. Most of them, as we know, have been introduced by the British, during their rule.

Golf- No introduction is needed for this sport, which developed in Scotland in the 15th century. This sport is now played all over the world. In India too, it is a favourite among the elite and the affluent. In fact, the oldest golf club outside the UK is situated in Kolkata!

Bagpipes- Everyone is familiar with this unique musical instrument, thanks to its melodious sound, which takes us on a mental voyage to the scenic Highlands, and the lush green Lowlands of Scotland. The instrument has not been used all that much in commercial Indian music. However, it continues to occupy a very important place in the Indian Army Band.

Scotch whisky- This is definitely the most significant gift of Scotland to India. Earlier we mentioned how India is one of the biggest markets for scotch whisky. Each day, more and more Indians are developing a taste for this wonderful liquor.

Out of the popular international scotch brands, Black Dog has truly made its mark in this country. Black Dog is made up of the best and the finest of whiskies manufactured all over Scotland, which are then blended in ideal proportions and aged for a certain period. No doubt, a party is incomplete without one’s share of Black Dog!

Black Dog- Blended to Perfection....

Are you in the mood for a glass of scotch? What type shall it be? I mean, the term ‘scotch’ is quite a broad one. Scotch whisky is mainly of two types- malt whisky, and grain whisky. While the earlier one consists of 100% malted barley and is distilled in pot stills, the latter is made in column stills with a mixture of grain (maize or wheat), and a certain amount of malted barley. Scotch whisky is further categorized on the basis of distillation. Single malt and single grain whiskies are those, which are manufactured in a single distillery. Blended scotch, on the other hand, is made up of whiskies from more than one distillery. Its varieties include malt, grain, as well as a mixture of the two.

If you are in the mood for some single malt, then why not try out the heavenly and deliciously mellow Dalmore? The blended whiskies like Black Dog, to some extent are more intense than single malts, but an array of brews, mixed in distinct proportions, lends it a kind of richness.

Black Dog captures the best of both malt and grain whisky, and mingles the distinct features of scotch from various regions, to present our palates and olfactory devices with a sublime experience.
