After the exciting afternoon session of the Signature Premiere Kolkata Fashion Week, we were quite looking forward to the evening session. The evening session began with a bang, with Tejas Gandhi showcasing his collection of gowns. The clothes were made in lots of black and green shades and the lower half of most of them was made using nets. We got the opportunity to chat with him as well.
What is your collection about?
Its about the transition of women- how a woman changes and the feelings attached to it. Its about change and the outlook of it.
Can you comment a little more on the fabrics that you have used?
The fabrics that I have used lots of Georgette and nets. I have tried to create a larger than life look by using nets.

The other biggies in the evening slots were Agnimitra Paul and MonaPali. Agnimitra Paul had a very successful show. The place was packed and they all appreciated the clothes. Unfortunately, we did not get the chance to interview her.

We got lucky with Mona Pali. A conversation with Pali is as follows:
What do you feel about the designs in Kolkata?
Anybody who has managed to reach a fashion week, it wont define the city's dresses. When we started, people told us that Calcutta is not very fashion conscious, Calcutta is backward, Calcutta mein fashion hota hi nahin hai. I would say, when we started, if the Calcuttans weren't fashion conscious or buy our clothes, we wouldn't have been where we are today. Today, everybody is looking to Calcutta.
A little more on your designs:
We tried to create designs, like you will see, on the neck, we have put pattis, we have dyed them in pink, blue etc. and have stitched them.
What do you feel is the future of Fashion in Kolkata?
Kolkata has great potential. Ekhane onek karigor achhe, village after village. Apni jodi Kolkatar suburbs e chole jaan, eto creativity achhe ( There are lots of craftsmen here in village after village. If you go to the suburbs of Kolkata, there is so much creativity there!) Kolkata has a very good future and I am very positive.
