A Day of Fun and Frolic in the 22nd Bakery Carnival

22nd of December 2012 was a much awaited day, as it was the 22nd Annual Bakery Carnival of Calcutta Club.

The much awaited event....

Like every year, there were a plethora of food stalls, which spoilt you with choices of cuisines. A number of well-known food chains and caterers of the city participated, including Balaram Sweets, Bibi of Taajas, Sweet Surrender, Bijoligrill, Taajas, Wow Momo, and loads more. The elite club’s kitchen and bakery too had a couple of stalls. The liquor stalls served a host of drinks and popular cocktails.

What's better than a glass of Gin and Tonic on a winter afternoon?

We went around trying and tasting various kinds of food, but what truly captivated my taste buds were the Crab Cakes of Taajas, the Fish Roll of Bijoligrill, the Pork Ribs in Salsa and Fries of Bibi of Taajas, and of course the Meat Potato Chop, and the Prawn Cutlet of the Calcutta Club Main Dining Hall. Balaram too had a few surprises to offer like Nolen Gurer Soufflé and Bon Bon Shondesh. Nalin Chandra Das and Sons too offered their well known flavoured Sweets.

A ‘carnival’ it is aptly called! The club had in store, a number of fun games for the members and their families. There were a number of games and activity kiosks where one could play and win prizes. While the tiny ones participated in the fancy dress, the talent show and the sit and draw with all the zeal, the adults had a tough time guessing the weight of the cake (Weigh the Cake Competition), and drinking beer in the given span of time (The Beer Drinking Competition). The infamous ‘Baking Completion’, like every year, took off with a bang! At about 4 o’ clock, Santa Claus rode around the club grounds in his horse drawn carriage, distributing sweets to the kids.

The children having a gala time!

The evening had more to come, with a variety of stage shows and music. In other words, the 22nd Annual Bakery Carnival 2012, like every year, was a huge success.
