Blue Poppy: Sikkim House

What we thought it's like:

Kolkata is known for having Tibetan food joints all over. There are little shacks lining Rabindra Sadan that serve momos, thukpa (or thuppa), kothey etc.
Blue Poppy, however, cannot be classified only as a Tibetan Food joint. Located inside Sikkim House, it has got a good seating space and the tables are very wide to accommodate all the food that you order. Even though there is not much embellishment inside, the air conditioning is sure to provide you relief in the sulty Calcutta heat.

Blue Poppy serves all kinds of food stuff- Chinese, Indian fare including thalis and Tibetan Stuff. It is mostly for the residents of Sikkim House, but outsiders are equally welcome!
The Chicken Meifoon and the Pork Shapta in Tibetan Style are a great combination for people who love rice noodles and spicy pork preparations. The quantity provided is a lot, especially of the pork. Even though the rice noodles might fall short for two people at lunch, it is ideal as a snack. The Pork Shapta is unbelievably spicy and it has a lot of onions in it and it can actually make you breathe fire. It sounds like a new challenge for chilli lovers! The quantity of pork provided is good and it has a good balance of flesh and fat. All in all, a great accompaniment for an unexciting meifoon!

The prices of the dishes is not much. The Chicken Meifoon is priced at Rs 90/- and the Pork Shapta at Rs 120/-. Given the quantity, the charge is very reasonable.
No wonder it is a haunt for the students of the nearby colleges!
A little tip for the prospective goers: Do not go there between 4pm and 5pm. The place is closed at that time. Only takeaway orders for momos will be entertained then.

Overall experience: 3 out of 5
