Antiquity Music CDs presented " A Fusion of Strings and Sax"

Antiquity Music CDs presented "A Fusion of Strings and Sax"- where the band Kendraka collaborated with Maarten Visser, saxophonist and Kartik Das Baul, eminent folk singer, took the stage to entertain people with their brand of music, at the Tollygunge Club.
The jamboree began a little after 8pm, when Mainak Nag Chowdhury(bass guitar), Nishad Pandey (lead guitar) and Gaurab Chatterjee( drums and percussion) of Kendraka took to playing with Maarten Visser. They played a number of beats and pieces of music that showed a perfect blend among the bass guitar, lead guitar, drums and the star of the evening- the saxophone. Some of the compositions were called Splush and Ekta Khoniker Jonno. They belted out another number called Bangla Funkology, which continued for 14 and 1/2 cycles.
Kartik Das Baul joined them midway in the act. He sang traditional Baul songs like Ananda Bajare Chole Jao and Kalare Koirogo Mana. There were parts in the song when the fusion of the musical instruments was showcased, including Kartik Das Baul's dugi, a hand held percussion instrument, that doubles as a string instrument. New crescendos were reached as they all merged together. The intricacies of the bass guitar, along with the hard- to- hit notes of the saxophone, as produced by Maarten Visser, were more than music to the ears.
It was an event to remember and we have Mr Peter Mitter to thank for inviting us to experience this wonderful minstrel's evening!
